BILLIAN MUSIC FAMILY

The Billian Music Family is a community based organization in Mathare founded in 2010. This community resource and leadership center is a safe space that supports talent development, provides education opportunities and empowerment of children and youth from Kenya’s second largest informal settlement and fostering for social change.

Talent Development and Music Education

◦ We Provide free music education and mentorship programs for children to discover and develop their musical talents.
◦ We Organize music workshops, concerts, and performances to give young talents a platform to showcase their skills.

Educational Support

◦ Offer scholarships to deserving children to pursue formal education, particularly in underserved communities.
◦ Facilitate partnerships with schools and educational institutions to provide resources, including school supplies and learning materials.

Provision of School Uniforms

Ensure that children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds have access to proper school uniforms, so they can attend school with dignity and confidence.

Creating a Safe and Supportive Community Space

◦ Establish a safe, accessible, and inclusive space where children and youth can gather for educational, cultural, and recreational activities.
◦ Foster a sense of belonging and provide emotional and psychological support for young people growing up in the informal settlement.

Community Engagement and Empowerment:

◦ Engage the wider community in supporting the growth and development of children, creating a network of mentors, volunteers, and local leaders.
◦ Organize community outreach programs that promote social responsibility, leadership, and active citizenship among young people.

Advocacy for Child Rights and Education

◦ Advocate for the rights of children in informal settlements to have access to education, safe spaces, and opportunities for talent development.
◦ Raise awareness about the challenges faced by children in informal settlements and work toward policy changes that support their well-being and future success.
